; J A Keister has received his commission as postmaster of Rose Hill. We know of no reason that can be assigned for Mr. Staley’s removal, except to make room for a democrat, but since he had to go for that reason it is fortunate that as competent and accommodating a man was given the place as Mr. Keister. His recommendation was endorsed by many of the best men who patronize the office. We believe Mr. Keister will fill the office acceptably.

At Hose Hill all spring crops are in excellent condition, though the cinch bugs are doing some damage. Edgar Colwell and Homer Cox held a meeting at the Rose Hill school house Sabbath. In this way Rose Hill is letting her light shine. Mr. Harris has built an addition to his blacksmith shop, to be used for wood work, tills will give them an opportunity to turn out all kinds of work promptly. J.P. Davis is buying stock

A fine rain just booms Rose Hill. Rubin Cox and family- attended Superior 5unday school Sunday. Tommy Davis and wife returned Thursday evening from Chase County. They report a pleasant time. Mr. Pickett buys all kinds of castings, wrought iron, bags, rubbers, rope, etc. He also claims to sell goods at or below Wichita prices.______________

Everything seems to be booming now in Rose Hill. D.M. Meeker has placed a stock of groceries at the post office. Mr. Meeker is an old resident here and will doubtless receive 'liberal patronage from his old friends and neighbors. With two stores here our -people will find but little occasion to go to the city

MY AUNT IDA GOLLY NUGENT TOLD ME THAT JOHN GOLEY, HER FATHER, MY GRANDFATHER, HAD A BLACKSMITH SHOP BY HIS STORE. JOHN GOLEY BUILT A LARGE BUILDING THERE, THEY HAD LIVING QUARTERS IN THE REAR OF THE STORE. JOHN GOLEY NAMED THE SETTLEMENT "ROSE HILL" NOW KNOWN AS OLD ROSE HILL. THEY HAVE A DAUGHTER BURIED THERE. '
In the year of 1867, John 'age 24 years and Hannah 19 years, with their infant son, Alfred Monroe, left North Carolina for a new life in the west. They lived for a while in Ucblesvillc, Indiana., where Georgeanna and Theodore were born In 1870 they moved on west to the State of Kansas.
John built a large building at the location of (old) Rose Hill, Kansas. In this building he had a general store with the post office located in it, also the living quarters for his family. He had a blacksmith shop, that he operated along with his store. His-daughter- Ida'-told that he named the village "Rose Hill.”
John Goley sold his business at Rose Hill-and bought- a resturant in Douglass
Kansas, they moved there.

I don't believe a post office was in the Goley store as H.C. Staley was the 2nd Postmaster & records from the National Archives place it in his store.
As to the name, Jaden Cox, her uncle stated to Oliver Nelson Rose Hill was named for the flowers which grew on the 'prairie

A letter from C. VJ. Staley of near Augusta, tells of early days in this country. His letter follows:

My.parents brought me into Kansas in the fall of 1872. This was our home until June 1879, when it was torn down by a cyclone. Then we built a store in "old” Rose Hill. The school house stood on the southwest corner of the intersection. ' The John Goley store stood on the southeast
corner and fronted to the west.
Grandpa- Meeker1 s store was on the northwest corner and fronted to the east. Cur store- was just north of the Meeker store. As for burial places the dead were buried at home before the Rose Hill graveyard was located where it is now. Then came the digging up and moving the bodies
from their home burial to the cemetery*
